New January 2016 Events

As this year winds down and a new year begins, we are offering a wide assortment of events for you to check out.  We're hosting a couple of financial seminars in January presented by the local group, Summers Financial, and a couple of craft Make-n-Take classes as well.  The craft classes are becoming more and more popular, so sign up sooner than later to ensure a spot!

We're also offering a defensive driver workshop on Saturday, January 16.  If you're a new driver or want to reduce points on your license, this is a great opportunity.

Liberty Travel from Victor will be presenting a travelogue on their recent trips to Switzerland and Ireland.  I'm looking forward to seeing pictures of the Swiss Alps!

Another exciting presentation - and also not your typical library seminar - is a group psychic reading done by an experienced medium on Tuesday, Jan 19 at 6:30pm.  This could be a very interesting workshop, for sure!

There are a few more events as well, so be sure to either check our calendar of events or stop in and pick up one of our paper calendars.  As always, you can register for most any class through the same online calendar.

Paintings, Photos and Art

If you haven't noticed, we have been showcasing local artists' work at the library for three or four months now.  At the beginning of each month, a new artist exhibits her/his work in the library for that entire month.  We've been lucky enough to showcase some amazing talent, and it's completely local.  When you first walk in the main library doors, you're immediately greeted with some superb photos or artwork.  But wait there's more!  Artwork can be found hanging in the public computer area and the large print section.  Stop in and take a look.  The art is really captivating.  We are so lucky to be living in such a richly talented area.

New Comic Books in the Library

This may not necessarily be news solely for the adult community, but we now have monthly comic books that can be checked out.  We're starting off with reboots of popular superheroes, such as Spiderman and the Avengers.  Marvel is restarting some of their titles and we've jumped aboard the bandwagon to offer them at the library.  It's the same but different.  Each month we'll have new issues for people to borrow.  A special shout-out to Two Kings Comics in Victor for helping us get this off the ground!

November Events

If you haven't seen our new November Calendar of Events at our front desk, here are some of the highlights:
Nov 4: Dr. Pierce from the Ontario County Historical Society stops in to discuss how the local community was affected by World War I.  Dr. Pierce is an engaging and knowledgeable speaker, and he will educate and entertain you.
Nov 9: with the holidays approaching, our tech expert Andrew gives you pointers on what type of tech gadget to buy.  Learn what's popular and what may be best for the "giftee".
Nov 17 will be an informational night on upcoming weekly painting classes.  These aren't the popular "Painting with a Twist" type class, but rather full blown art classes.  You will paint a picture based on the weekly lesson given by local resident Nils Caspersson and take it home with you.  Each week you learn a new technique and use it to create a new piece of art which you again take home.  Classes will run for 8 weeks.  For more information, stop in to the library or call us at 924-2637.

As a reminder, you can view and sign up for all our classes at our Calendar of Events.

Music All Around

We had a wonderful time Saturday October 17 at our first ever "Music All Around" event, held in the library.  The building was transformed into a party-like atmosphere.  Around 40 guests showed up after the library closed from 6-9pm, and five different musical acts performed throughout the library at various locations to the delight of all.  Delicious hors-d'oeuvres, desserts and wine and other non-alcoholic beverages were served as well.  A special thank you to the following:

The Barrel Room for selecting and serving the best wines
The Board of Trustees for their continued support
The various musicians for making beautiful music
Our director, Elly Dawson, for her tireless efforts to make this event happen

If you wished you had attended, never fear!  We're looking forward to hosting the next one!  Next year it will be even bigger and better.  Keep your eyes and ears opened!

New Classes and Seminars

It's been way too long since we've updated this page!

We have some exciting classes and events in October for you.  On the 7th we tried to hold a star gazing event with Hank Baronsky from the Rochester Astronomy Club.  Hank showed up along with numerous people anxious to check out the stars.  Unfortunately, the clouds and the rain also showed up.  We will try to reschedule in the very near future.  Check back often to see when.  On the 14th, we are kicking off our new series of history classes called "History in Your Backyard".  Harvey Limbeck, local resident and Ganondagan docent, stops in to discuss the Iroquois Confederacy and the culture and history within it.  Seats are filling fast so reserve your spot ASAP.  There are many other cool classes and events coming up.  If you're in the library, grab an Events Calendar at the front desk or if you're in front of your computer, click on the Calendar of Events link from the main library page.  We have a full load of events through the end of the year.

Check back here often.  Hopefully I'll remember to update it on a regular basis!
